Jay Mohr Sports / Re: favorite impression
« on: November 14, 2013, 12:01:46 pm »
I love em all, I was always fascinated by people that could do impressions since I was a little kid, which is why Jay is one of my favorites. But after listening to him a lot I have to say his Barry Katz is my favorite. Just because he knows him so well, and you can see he has such an ear for all of Barry's inflections & tonalities. Plus I love how he'll just start doing "Barry" for someone in studio that has no idea who Jay is supposed to be, that's my favorite. Like when Jim Norton was on over the summer, and Jay did the classic "Do you wanna do in a show in Japan" set up that he does, it was like a 4 minute piece and then he hits Jimmy with the punchline: "Do ya know how to fly a Leer jet." Jimmy was going with it the whole time, and then he goes "Who is that supposed to be?" That made me laugh so f*cking hard, it was one of my favorite moments of the year on any podcast. (I listen to about 10 different shows/comics)

2nd is Eddie Vedder.

Jay Mohr Sports / Re: Jay Mohr on Comedy Bang-Bang
« on: November 14, 2013, 11:56:07 am »
Jay showed up at Meltdown Comics for some Nerdist thing, it was a theme show about "embarrassing stories." They had like 10 comics do 10 minute sets, or something like that. Most of it was typical LA comics that are super polite and "cute," I don't know how to explain the ethos of LA comedy, but I hate 90% of it and Im from the east coast and don't find any of these shit heads funny.

Jay came in there, I have never seen a f*cking comic crush like he did. It was literally the chopper attack from Apocalypse Now, it was amazing. Even the chick I brought had never heard of Jay, and she was dying. The next (unfunny chick) comic gets up, about 4 mins in me & the gal I brought just looked at each other and were like "...let's go." I mean how the f*ck are you going to follow that, it's like watching a local band go up after the Rolling Stones. Many shuvs & zuhls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the slohr THAT day, I can tell you...

I do my own podcast, Lookin GOOD Radio (www.lookingoodradio.com), can I get mine plugged in there? It's mostly dick jokes, movie talk, me bitching about women in LA/f*cking fat chicks.

For knowing how much attention JJ gives to message boards and stuff, and his internet battles, I'm surprised he doesn't plug this more on the podcast. I really need to get the I Heart Radio app so I can catch Mohr Sports. I honestly hate sports and sports talk even more, but JJ and Jim Florentine are the only guys I can listen to talk about sports and still be entertained as hell. Just because they're so passionate and they side track so much, ha.

David Lee Roth, I didn't mind him on JJ's so much, because Jay's a great interviewer and you know David Lee is one of his heroes, so it was kind of cool to hear. I didn't mind him on Carolla either, because it was (I think) his first podcast appearance, and you got a more laid back & inflective Dave which was manageable. But by the time he got on Opie & Anthony 2 or 3 (horrendous) times, and popping up on a lot of other podcasts, I'd really had enough of him. And it seemed like he reverted back to uber obnoxious, never shut the f*ck up Dave.

I like most of the musicians he's had on. I even sat through the Duff interview, and usually that stuttering, stammering, stock market analyzing dope can't get me to the "off" button faster. I hope he gets Scott Weiland from STP on. Or Phil from Pantera. (It usually works better when it's a musician he's a fan of though)
