Jay Mohr Sports / Fox Sports 1
« on: July 03, 2013, 03:11:46 pm »
For God's sake, I can't wait for the stupid promos for Fox Sports 1 to end!! If I have to hear that chick from the Black Eyed Peas screach "llletttts get it started..." one more time, I might just drive off a cliff. August 17th can't get here soon enough.

Exactly...though to be more accurate, Rome went "corporate" years ago before the move to CBS. Things he used to hate like horse racing and NASCAR, they are now part of his show all the time. He fired his long time producer and replaced him with a reality show star with no experience. He got rid of "clone" (listener) interaction nearly altogether with the exception of the yearly Smackoff. Then he ruined that by naming a prominent MMA fighter the "champion"....JJ hopefully will not go down that road, and keep randomly asking his interviewees who their favorite pro wrestlers are, who their top 3 rappers are, etc. And keep up the listener interaction. "More of me, less of you" was Rome's calling card. "It's not me, it's we" is JJ's. That's why I made the switch.

That segment was pretty damn funny...even Don got in on it. I loved when JJ went off the rails and suggested everyone take their shirts off. Props to Buzz for being a good sport. That bit epitomizes why JJ is so much better than his predecessor. Can you even imagine Rome trying that? No way in hell, not today.
Ballwash over....

Jay Mohr Sports / Re: Homo?
« on: June 03, 2013, 01:58:08 pm »
Loved how he spent the opening segment on a gay rights rant regarding Hibbert, then spends the rest of the show saying "no homo" in exactly the same way/context Hibbert said it. He will claim he was clowning Roy, but still, a touch hypocritical. And the media has blown this waaaay out of proportion, esp. ESPN...And JJ didn't seem to get what Hibbert was saying w/ the whole rant about  MFers never watching the Pacers. It was directed at the big media that slobber over the big market teams that aren't that great (Knicks, Lakers) while ignoring the Pacers....mainly ESPN and how they create excuses for why teams lose against the Pacers rather than giving them credit for actually being a great team. And no outrage over LeBron saying the same thing a few years back??? Hypocritical, my man

Jay Mohr Sports / Re: Heh Jay, theres a sport called golf.
« on: May 13, 2013, 09:48:38 pm »
Lots of things that we call "sports" aren't really that. Poker/Bowling/Darts on ESPN, curling at the Olympics (they used to smoke while playing before everywhere went smoke free), etc. Golf is somewhere in the middle. Tiger can bench press 300 lbs, or could at the time his workout routine was chronicled in Men's Fitness a few years back, but Angel Cabrera was until recently smoking during his rounds! Tiger came along and brought the fitness aspect into golf, and a lot of guys followed, realizing that more strength = more distance...But that said, tons of other pros sport guts, man boobs, etc. It's weird. You had Adam Scott, a pretty fit guy, in a playoff with an middle-aged former chain smoking Spaniard at the Masters (Cabrera). Scott could run laps around Cabrera who would probably die if JJ's "run after the shot" thing was implemented...yet they were shot for shot until the end. Crazy...

Long-winded rant over, I say golf is a sport...it's not Olympic swimming, but it ain't poker either. And it takes more skill than wearing sunglasses inside while playing cards

Jay Mohr Sports / JJ "bananas" drinking game
« on: May 09, 2013, 11:55:38 pm »
All in good fun, but if those of us that partake were to do a shot every time JJ says "bananas" during a show, would any of us survive the day? I think I would be in the ER during the 2nd hour on some days. I know JJ would be fine since he doesn't drink, but this would not be for the lightweights. We should have "Bananas Saturday" where we take a podcast of a show the prior week, then "shoot it!" every time JJ says bananas...

To summarize, JJ says bananas a lot

"Brain's head looks like a Chiefs helmet after diamond push-ups." I literally spit out my drink, not figuratively like people used to on the predecessor's show. Today was pretty good with Sarah and the reset of Charles Ramsey. "Dead giveaway!"  :lol

Welcome Dan...."I could go for something to eat"....love that sound drop. I annoy the hell out of my wife with it. Glad to have you aboard.

No I am not Dan in Phoenix...I didn't hear the call, I am assuming he said something along the lines of what I posted. I did hear a call yesterday or Monday where a caller was talking about how all weekend he kept saying "Quick!" from that drop...but that was after I posted this. I think we all get them stuck in our heads.
My latest is Brain's "Indiana"...even though it is an old drop I find myself saying a lot since I live in Indy.
Or "Don!" for no apparent reason, I don't know any guys named Don personally.

Anyone else hear a drop on the show that just sticks with you all day or even days after? I end up repeating them to my wife and friends, but especially my wife. First was that fast "no no no.." It's like 9 no's in a row, she loved that..... Then it was Brain's "It thought you were going to say a joke." "Hey Matty" is ongoing bc my Doberman is named Maddie....this weekend it was Beyer's "I could go for something to eat." Seriously, this show has infiltrated my head. And my wife is about to kill me.

It would be cool to have some way to get the sound drops downloadable to use as text notifications...ok maybe just "hey matty" bc my name is Matt. I currently rigged up the "ooh hey buddy" drop to work for now. I have found the full hey matty clip on some website, but it's a pain in the ass to edit down to just the drop and then transfer to my phone. Wow I am a dork

Jay Mohr Sports / Funniest show today....

The best parts of JJ's show is when it goes off the rails. Today was the funniest show ending to date, IMO...Don doing any job, Brain's diamond push-ups, the Diamond Dan open, I was literally laughing out loud. Ballwash over.

I think it has actually gotten better. The drops flow with the show, early on it had a "morning zoo" quality that even JJ admitted. The drops are well timed, and aside from a few (I could do without "Diamonds and Pearls") I think they are fine. JJ moves through his material well, doesn't dwell on it or "reset" it for entire segments (with few exceptions) and has integrated his crew into the show. It has only been 4 months, people. The best parts of the show are when they go off script and just have fun with it. He integrates listeners, and doesn't act like he is "above" them. Some of it is out of his hands (Top 5 at 5), remember that. Ok, ballwash over.....
