Title: Question of the Day--28 Mar
Post by: buggb17 on March 28, 2013, 12:12:43 pm
UCLA is feeling the effects that Notre Dame felt a decade ago.  They both became irrelavant because they relied on their previous traditions to recruit players and coaches.  Then they found out they actually had to promote their program and schools.

There's no passion in UCLA basketball!  I attented a Kentucky-UCLA game in Anaheim a few years ago and the UK fans outnumbered the UCLA fans.  Seriously.

UCLA will need someone to make the program relevant again.  No one cares, in LA or the nation.  Follow the ratings and the money (in terms of how much money basketball brings to the university).  You'll see who's relevant.

I thought about this guy w/ about 20 min left in the show & knew I couldn't get the call in.

Steve Fisher at SDSt.

He not only can really coach but has some established Cali recruiting connections. He's done a great job at SDSt & has a championship on his resume.

Why not?

Why would any of these big name young coaches that have gone deep into the dance want to coach a team that was one and done and won't have its best player back? The balls on UCLA fan and Dan Guerrero are huge.

But they are not as huge as the balls on USC fan and Pat Haden. Because despite having a perennially crap team with "Miner" historical success and at best a factory for role players in the NBA (Scalabrine, Taj Gibson, Nick Young, Demar Derozan, OJ Mayo),  USC fan seriously thought that Shaka Smart was not only on the table, but ours to lose. Yes, count me among that group. Shaking my head that anyone thinks the USC job is anything more than a place for an OK coach to regroup for a couple years.
