Jay Mohr Sports / Another Way of Thinking About Irsay
« on: March 18, 2014, 07:42:34 pm »
I didn't write this, it comes from KissingSuzyKolber.com

I'm not sure i agree with entirely, but it is interesting, and JJ always say he likes to hear from people that have opposite opinions from his own. I bolded the part where the author quotes Kravitz's article (The indy beat writer who was on the show today)

"Substance addiction is a serious problem, but it isnít a license to be a dangerous asshole. Yet if you believe people like The Indy Starís Bob Kravitz, Irsay neednít even ask for redemption. Itís already come.

[Now comes the wake-up call.

Do you hear it, Jim? Do you hear it? Or do you press the snooze button and continue on this downward spiral?

Thereís no shame. Thereís no embarrassment. Fact is, if Irsay gets the help he needs, heíd be a public beacon for the multitudes who also need help with alcohol and drugs. Just as Chuck Pagano has taken the lead on finding a cure for cancer and more specifically leukemia, Irsay can be a guiding light for those in the grips of addiction.]

Thatís right, Jim Irsay f*cks up and itís immediately framed as his shot to become a hero. Must be nice.

But perhaps Kravitz has adopted a similar tone with players who gotten in trouble while intoxicated? Oh, nope, itís heavy handed derision for them. Take his reaction to Pat McAfeeís 2010 arrest for public intoxication for swimming drunk in a canal:

[Iím supposed to be taking this more seriously. Iím supposed to be body- slamming Phelps ó thatís Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee from now on ó for his drunken, early-morning dip in the Broad Ripple Canal, a body of water that is known as ďthe cityís primary conduit of raw water.Ē

Whatís next, Phelps?

The Love Canal?]

Where are the attempts at understanding and concern? After all, McAfeeís crime was certainly less hazardous to others than Irsayís. I guess McAfee shouldíve come closer to hurting someone then perhaps he couldíve been a hero too! Then again, Kravitz is a toadying Colts beat writer. A positive relationship with an NFL owner is much more important to his job than a punter who will be gone from the team in a few years, at most. Itís regrettable but not entirely surprising that he would think this way.

Unfortunately, many others who cover the NFL think the same way, even without the clear conflict of interest. NFL owners have had enough breaks in life, they donít need an obedient media prepared to immediately absolve them of their mistakes on top of it.

So i'm working on a wiki for podcasts, it's not totally public right now, because i want to get it built out a little before i open it.

anyone interested that either listens to a lot of podcasts, or has experience editing wiki pages?

I forget what the actual line was, but JJ was commenting on Peyton Manning's pre-snap antics, and it reminded me of this

I really like Joe Buck, and I wanted to try to convert a friend of mine by cutting a clip together of Joe on Jay's show (twice that I know of?)

Does anyone remember the dates?

...that all the platitudes heaped on Peter King by JayJay were just the usual business-polite-ball-washing, and not his actual opinion.

Peter King is journalistic AIDS, an absolute hack, and Monday Morning Quarterback is the kind of literary masturbation that is ruining sports media: basically, everything JJ isn't.

The guys at Kissing Suzy Kolber do a pretty good deconstruction each monday of MMQB, it's hilarious, but it'll make you want to stab your eyes out that such a black hole of talent gets such a big platform.

Not sure if you guys are fans of Comedy Bang-Bang, it's heavily improv, and it's sort of an acquired taste, but JJ was on a recent episode, and it was  pretty good.

check it out if you're into that sort of thing

« on: August 15, 2013, 03:17:02 pm »
Do any of you recovering Clones remember the guest host gig when JJ went on a rant about that Hanes commercial with "bacon neck"?

Surely, there has to be a way to tie "bacon neck" with Dan Beyer's cannibalism, but I can't connect the dots.

My riff gun is jammed. Help a brother out?
